Flowy Maxi Dresses are ideal for summer but sometimes can be hard to wear. It’s always tricky when there is no defined shape given to a dress…. I tend to love that look and find the loose look effortlessly chic. For those who feel they need some sort of shape, a belt is always the cutest and easiest way to tie something together.
I fell in love with this Joie printed dress for so many reasons… the fabric is so soft and lightweight (ideal for those extremely hot days in the city) and the print is so dainty and whimsical. I styled it both ways in this shoot to show the versatility of a maxi as well as how cute it can look (with some wedges, us petite girls need some height!) with or without a belt. The key is to situate the belt a little bit above your hips and pull the fabric on top so it hangs properly. The belt creates a cinched waist and you instantly have some shape in a typically shapeless dress.
