Remember when I told you I have an endless number of Bridal Showers? Well, I was not lying. This Sunday I celebrated my very best friend and showered her with so much love before her big day.
I have written about what to wear to a shower, engagement, and/or wedding and sometimes the outfits can become repetitive. I wanted to try something out of the box, unlike anything I own or would normally put on. With that thought in mind, I knew I wanted to incorporate a very feminine skirt with a bit of fullness. To counter the length and volume of the skirt, a more fitted and potentially cropped top is key.
I came across this Zara skirt online one day and knew it was the perfect piece for two reasons… 1. I wanted to try out the trend but not invest too heavily in it therefore spending $59.90 seemed ideal and 2. I loved the navy hue because I instantly wanted to pair black with it. Navy + Black is a classic combination that is not seen as frequently as it should. I find a lot of people are scared to pair navy with black or brown with black and I happen to think the combination is effortless. They are perfect primary colors to start an outfit with.
Anybody can try this trend… whether you are shorter and petite (like me) or taller, tailor the skirt to lay right below your knee so it is not too overwhelming. This style skirt is everywhere right now… my next purchase will definitely be a printed one paired with a cute cropped sweater.
For this particular look, I had a vision of wearing a fitted turtleneck to emulate an Audrey Hepburn vibe… classic, timeless, elegant. Finding the right turtleneck can definitely be a challenge. Different turtlenecks come in handy for different occasions… if you were looking for a chunky knit turtleneck you want to find something that has enough structure to stand up and not cowl over. When looking for a fitted cropped turtleneck, you want to find something with enough stretch that it hugs you but also does not buckle. I came across my black turtleneck at Intermix and I knew it was exactly what I needed. I already envision so many more looks with it (specifically my leather Rag and Bone overalls– stay tuned!)
Lastly, I threw on some great gold accessories and my all time favorite lace up Zara sandals and I was ready to go!
